Referral Activity
What counts toward referral activity?
Every referral you send and every referral you receive counts toward your Referral Activity score — regardless of outcome. A referral you sent that got declined still counts. A referral you received that you had to turn down still counts. The score measures participation, not perfection.
Each referral — in either direction — adds 2 points to your score, up to a maximum of 25. That means 13 total referrals gives you the full score. For most active contractors, that's achievable in 2–3 months.
Why does referral activity matter?
Active participants build more trust than dormant accounts. A contractor who joined Referly six months ago and has sent zero referrals is telling the platform — and their potential partners — that they're not engaged. A contractor with 20 referrals on record is telling the platform that they work, they refer, and they're part of the ecosystem.
Referral activity is also a proxy for relationship depth. Contractors who send and receive referrals have real partnerships. They're not just collecting connections — they're actually using them. That's who you want to partner with, and that's who others want to partner with you.
Sent vs. received — does it matter?
No. Both count equally. A referral you sent to a partner counts the same as a referral a partner sent to you. This is intentional — the goal is to measure participation in the referral ecosystem, not just generosity or just receptiveness.
That said, the healthiest referral relationships are roughly reciprocal over time. If you're sending 10 referrals to a partner and receiving zero back, that's worth a conversation — even if the activity score doesn't penalize it.
How to build referral activity quickly
- Start sending. The next time a customer needs work outside your trade, send it through Referly instead of texting your partner directly. It takes 30 seconds and adds to your activity count.
- Accept referrals promptly. When a partner sends you a referral, accept or decline it quickly. Every referral you receive counts, and accepting them fast also helps your Responsiveness score.
- Add more partners. More partners means more potential referral flow in both directions. A network of 5 active partners generates far more referral activity than a network of 1.
- Be consistent. One or two referrals a month adds up quickly. 2 referrals a month × 7 months = 14 referrals = full activity score.
